Ok, I have to make an admission now. I do not understand this website! I have wanted to enter the world of blogging for some time now, but am continually put off by the vast amount of associated jargon. What's a blogroll? What's "Atom"? Why can't I search for blogs? How do I navigate the various perplexing options offered when I try to subscribe to a blog? Why can't I post comments as a blogger, and end up posting as 'anonymous' on my own posts?!
Some kind of guidance would be appreciated.

The Traditional Inaugural Blog Post
I suppose this is where most people would begin by explaining their motivations behind setting up a new blog.
I suppose I am a relative latecomer to the phenomenon of blogging, having previously only dabbled in it at the behest of various friends and relatives, but since I stopped keeping a diary I have missed having a record of important and amusing events in my life, and so hopefully this will serve that purpose whilst also providing an aperture through which I can interact with not only the aforementioned friends and relations, but also a vast community of lovely blogging folks who inhabit this glorious internet of ours.
You may have to get used to the overlong sentences, by the way.
